What couples therapy gives you
Most often couples come in order to understand each other better. In therapy we work on the way you talk to each
other — so that it becomes possible to speak about needs and worries instead of defending and attacking. We also
look at what keeps repeating: where the same arguments come from and what part each of you plays in them.
The second thing is understanding each other — your own reactions, your histories and what each of you brings into
the relationship from your family home. The third is mutual support: the sense that you are on the same side, even
when you differ.
How to choose a therapist for a couple
Check whether the person works with couples and in which approach — on our site each person writes about it on
their profile. Arrange a first session and treat it as a way of checking whether you want to
work with that person. You can ask about their experience, their way of working and how long therapy may take.
